KASU Pulls Out of ASUU Strike, Commences Semester Exams

Following Governor Nasiru El-Rufai threat, the Kaduna State University (KASU) has resumed the second semester of the 2020/2021 academic session for its undergraduate and postgraduate students amidst the ongoing five months industrial action embarked by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The school had announced that the resumption was for the continuation of the second-semester examination, which was postponed due to the ASUU strike, which began in February of this year.

The institution's acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdullahi Ashafa, explained that KASU does not have a labor dispute with the local branch of ASUU, so there is no need to keep the students at home and schools closed.

Ashafa warned that students and lecturers who do not return to class would face severe consequences.

Recall that the Kaduna state governor, Mallam El-Rufai had in the previous week, threatened to stop the payment of the salaries of KASU lecturers and declare their positions vacant if they fail to resume academic activities.

The governor had stated that the lecturers had no right to cripple school activities because ASUU's problem was with the federal government and not the state government.
