ASUU Strike Looms in UNIMAID
Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) chapter, said they will embark on strike if all their demands are not met by the federal government.
The union had reportedly given federal authorities an ultimatum over its demands in November and would meet again in Abuja tomorrow to make a final decision.
The government is said to have released N16 billion as part payment of Earned Academic Allowance (EEA), one of the demands, to university unions including ASUU.
Chairperson, ASUU, UNIMAID chapter, Dr Abubakar Mshelia Saidu said at a press conference that lecturers will down tools if all their demands were not addressed.
He said his branch will accept the outcome of the National Executive Council meeting (NEC for NEC) on December 18 but that notwithstanding the payments of EEA, the union will embark on strike if “all issues in dispute are not resolved conclusively and the union’s demands are not met, including the Re-negotiation of the 2009 Agreement and implementation of the 2020 MoU.”
