Igbinedion University, Okada was established in 1991 as the first private university in Nigeria. The institution is located in Okada, headquarters of Ovia North-East Local Government Area (LGA), Edo State, Nigeria. Igbinedion University was named after its founder, Sir Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion CFR – a billionaire, philanthropist and a prominent Benin Chief.

This renowned institution offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC). Academic History of Igbenidion University’s Colleges

Igbinedion University began its academic programmes in the1999/2000 academic session in five colleges – Arts and Social Sciences, Business and Management Studies, Law, Health Sciences, and Applied Sciences. The first set of students came into the university on Friday, 15^th Oct., 1999. IUO introduced and began its College of Engineering programmes in the 2002/2003 academic session. The College of Pharmacy and Nursing began later in the 2004/2005 academic session.
